Behind the Bar: Custom Bar Design

Need a custom bar? We’ll drink to that. When our client wanted a bar constructed from reclaimed wood, we got to work designing a bar that would reflect their eclectic sensibilities and add a playful pop of color to the space. Construction on the bar began last week, and it’s almost finished! The finishing touches will be to seal the wood finish, and add the barstools and a fun framed chalkboard (made from the same reclaimed wood!) above the counter.

The Lowdown on Leather

Faux Leather. We realized that all of the different types of faux leather, for instance ”bonded” versus “pleather”, can be rather confusing and we wanted to clarify so that our customers and clients feel more comfortable knowing what they are buying. Here’s our lowdown on Leather!

Basically, pleather is a general term used to describe any fake leather. Naugahyde and leatherette are the same thing, a fabric coated in plastic, but leatherette is known specifically for its use in car interiors. Vinyl is fabric coated specifically in PVC as opposed to another type of plastic. Bonded leather is the only synthetic leather with actual fragments of real leather in its composition, so definitely not for anyone who is vegan!

Bonded Leather: Partially synthetic leather made from a combination of various plastics spread over ground up leather. Unlike all the others, bonded leather has fragments of real leather in it.

Naugahyde: Artificial leather made of knit backing and a coating of plastic.

Pleather: Derived from “plastic leather” and describes any fabric that attempts to mimic leather.

Leatherette: Faux leather made of fabric with plastic coating generally used in car interiors instead of real leather.

Vinyl: Fabric coated specifically in PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) hence the name “vinyl.”
